Aldi leads August retail leasing activity with major Midtown West deal

Aldi has signed the largest retail lease in New York City for August, securing 25,000 square feet at 312 West 43rd Street in Midtown West. The German grocery chain continues to expand its presence in the United States with this new location. Esther Bukai of Ripco Real Estate represented Aldi, while Lon Rubackin, Michael Kadosh, and Bevan Cohen of CBRE acted on behalf of landlords Taconic Partners and National Real Estate Advisors.

The second-largest deal involved Harlem Furniture taking a 24,000-square-foot space at 250 Willis Avenue in Mott Haven. This marks the retailer’s second Bronx location and third overall in New York City. Miles Sabbagh, Marc Sitt, and Nathan Aballi of KSR represented both Harlem Furniture and the landlord JRM 250 Realty.

GMA Accessories signed a new 12-year lease for 23,700 square feet at 389 Fifth Avenue in the Garment District. Michael Joseph of Colliers represented GMA Accessories; Max Koeppel of Koeppel Rosen represented the Rosen family as landlord.

Other notable leases included restaurant Mamo with a 7,000-square-foot deal at 885 Third Avenue in Midtown East. Spencer Levy of CBRE represented Mamo while Adam Weinblatt of Newmark acted for SL Green Realty.

Stealth NY secured a lease for a 5,000-square-foot space at 67 West Street in Greenpoint. Corey Cohen from Roebling Group handled representation for both Stealth NY and Pearl Realty Management.

Funzy Play Family Club agreed to a new 15-year lease for another 5,000-square-foot space at Long Island City’s 2-20 Malt Drive. Lip Fei Jiang from Chibeca Real Estate worked with Funzy Play Family Club; TF Cornerstone owns the property.

Tin’s restaurant and cocktail bar took up a new ten-year lease covering 3,600 square feet at 109 Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side. Jordan Cohen and David Scher from Lee & Associates NYC were tenant representatives; Noam Aziz and Carson Shahrabani from Meridian Retail Leasing acted for landlord Mordehy Haber.

Utopia Bagels signed on for a spot measuring approximately 3,500 square feet at Midtown East’s 875 Third Avenue. Jeff Winick from RTL worked with Utopia Bagels while Frank Reiser from Tungsten Property represented Global Holdings as landlord.

Bottega Veneta leased out a new retail site totaling about 3,400 square feet at West Village’s 58 Gansevoort Street. Jared Epstein and Jake Bank from Aurora Capital Associates handled representation internally; Aurora Capital Associates co-owns this building with William Gottlieb Real Estate.

Rounding out the top ten was an unnamed restaurant by hospitality group David Yun, Steve Choi & Yong Min Kim which leased around 3,300 square feet at East Village’s 166 First Avenue under a ten-year agreement. Bobby Ortense and Jacob Mayer from Meridian Retail Leasing were tenant representatives; Greg Goldberg also from Meridian Retail Leasing worked on behalf of Highpoint Property Group as landlord.
