Amazon has announced a significant enhancement in pay and benefits for its fulfillment and transportation workers across New York and the United States. The new initiatives include a $5 weekly health care plan and expanded education benefits, as part of an investment exceeding $1 billion. This move comes ahead of Amazon’s busiest retail season, which includes Prime Big Deal Days and the holiday shopping period.

The company aims to improve employees’ quality of life while maintaining operational efficiency during peak demand times. According to Amazon’s 2024 workforce report, average pay for these workers will rise to more than $23 per hour, with total compensation surpassing $30 per hour when including benefits. Full-time employees are expected to see an average annual pay increase of $1,600, with tenured workers receiving hourly raises between $1.10 and $1.90.

Amazon noted that employees with at least three years at the company have already seen an average 35% increase in base pay. The upcoming health care plan, set to take effect in 2026, is designed to cut employee health care costs by 34% and reduce copays for primary and mental health care visits by 87%. This change is projected to save employees hundreds of dollars annually while enhancing access to essential health services nationwide.

Amazon employs over 1.5 million people globally, including thousands in New York working in fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and corporate offices. The company’s mission focuses on creating opportunities through innovation and investment, emphasizing employee growth through programs like Career Choice.
