Stony Brook University welcomed Andrea Goldsmith as its seventh president, marking her first official week on campus. Goldsmith, who was selected by the SUNY Board of Trustees in February, has been engaging with various members of the university community for several months prior to her arrival.
During this period, she met with campus leaders, faculty, students, alumni, and staff across Stony Brook’s East, West, and Southampton campuses. Her efforts have drawn positive feedback from colleagues and administrators.
Executive Vice President and Provost Carl Lejuez commented on Goldsmith’s approach: “Because of her accomplishments and her vision, people will see her as a leader, but because of how she treats people, people will see her as one of us.”
Judi Brown Clarke, vice president for equity and inclusion and chief health equity officer at Stony Brook University, said: “Her track record as an innovator, educator, and champion for equity positions her perfectly to guide us into what would be our next chapter.”
Additional information about President Goldsmith is available on her website.
