Wisconsin-based BelGioioso Cheese will invest over $23 million to expand its operations in New York State, according to an announcement from Governor Kathy Hochul. The company’s projects will focus on its facilities in Glenville, Schenectady County, and Campbell, Steuben County. As part of the expansion, BelGioioso has committed to creating at least 30 new jobs across the two sites.

The expanded facilities are expected to utilize an additional 100 million pounds of milk sourced from New York State dairy farmers. This development highlights the role of agribusiness and the dairy sector in the state’s economy.

Empire State Development is supporting the project with up to $1.5 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. Governor Hochul stated, “This decision by BelGioioso to further expand its operations upstate marks yet another chapter in New York’s agricultural success story. New York’s dairy industry serves as a crucial economic engine for our state, and we are grateful to this successful company for its continued commitment to these communities, and to area dairy farmers, who always work hard to help position our state as one of the nation’s top dairy producers.”

BelGioioso Cheese was founded in 1979 and currently operates eleven plants producing more than 30 varieties of Italian cheeses. At the 2025 Great New York State Fair Dairy Competition, BelGioioso brands received seven medals, including three First Place Gold awards.

The Glenville facility previously saw a $25 million investment for a cheese plant completed in 2020 and added a distribution center in 2022. The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is providing a $150,000 capital grant for this latest project as well as a sales tax exemption on construction materials.

In 2021, BelGioioso acquired the Polly-O brand and its plant in Campbell. Built in 1938, the Campbell facility is undergoing upgrades and modernization efforts as part of this initiative. The Steuben County Industrial Development Agency is also assisting with the project. Both facility upgrades are scheduled for completion by late 2027.
