The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the release of updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025. The files are now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These resources allow users to create custom maps using a range of data sources.

According to the Census Bureau, the new updates include Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages that provide both 2020 and current block information. The blocks have suffixes to indicate any splits that have occurred since 2020. Users can link this information with the agency’s current address count listing files.

Geospatial data from TIGER/Line files include legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as features such as roads and hydrography. The geographic boundary data will be compatible with upcoming 2025 demographic data on data.census.gov, enabling users to map census tabular data.

While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) which can be used to connect with Census Bureau demographic datasets. Those seeking guidance on which product best fits their needs are encouraged to visit the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
