The U.S. Census Bureau has announced it will hold a prerelease webinar for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates before their public release on September 11, 2025. The session aims to help participants understand how to access ACS data and resources, as well as provide guidance on comparing statistics and geographic areas over time.
The ACS offers detailed information about the nation’s population and housing, including topics such as language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It remains the primary source of local estimates for most of its more than 40 subjects.
Statistics from the 2024 ACS will be available under embargo starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional districts, metropolitan statistical areas, and other regions with populations of at least 65,000. The embargoed data can be accessed by subscribers until September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. Distribution services are prohibited from releasing any news stories or data files related to these statistics prior to the official release date in accordance with the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All datasets will become publicly accessible by September 11 at 10 a.m. ET.
Individuals interested in embargo access can register through www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET and will feature Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office. The event includes an online presentation with simultaneous audio; attendees do not need to call in separately for audio access. Credentialed media members and data users will have opportunities to ask questions both during and after the presentation via an online Q&A feature or audio.
Registration for the webinar is available at https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2025/2024-acs-1-year-estimates-prerelease.html.
