The College of Arts and Sciences has announced the schedule for the Fall 2025 Sir Run Run Shaw Lecture Series, set to begin on October 20. The first event, titled “From Seaweed to Sovereignty: Shinnecock Kelp Farmers and Indigenous-Led Climate Solutions,” will feature members of the Shinnecock Kelp Farmers Collective, including Danielle Hopson Begun, Donna Collins-Smith, and Rebecca Genia. This session is co-sponsored by the Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative, Humanities Institute, Department of Art, Collaborative for the Earth, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, and Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery.
On November 14, the series will present two lectures. The morning event, “Asian Multilingualism, the English language, and the Scholarly Contributions of Professors S.N. Sridhar and Kamal K. Sridhar,” will be delivered by Professor Kingsley Bolton from the University of Stockholm and Ateneo de Manila University. This lecture is presented by the Center for Multilingual and Intercultural Communication and the Mattoo Center for India Studies, with support from the Departments of Asian and Asian American Studies and Linguistics as part of the 2025 MIC Symposium on Multilingualism.
Later that day, Dr. Sarah E. Reisman, Bren Professor of Chemistry and Norman Davidson Leadership Chair at the California Institute of Technology, will give a talk titled “Necessity Is the Mother of Invention: Natural Products and the Chemistry They Inspire.” The Department of Chemistry is organizing this session.
The Sir Run Run Shaw Endowment was established in 1985 after a donation from the Shaw Foundation Hong Kong Limited to the College of Arts and Sciences, facilitated by CN Yang, Einstein Professor of Physics, and President Marburger. The endowment supports lectures within the college.
