The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) have lifted the recreational use advisory for Flint Creek in Ontario County. The advisory had been put in place after environmental impacts from runoff followed a fire at the Eco Operations facility in Gorham on August 30, 2025.

Water quality sampling and data collection along Flint Creek show improvement, indicating low health risks for fishing, fish consumption, boating, and swimming. According to the agencies, “Protecting the health of New Yorkers and the environment is a top priority, and DEC remains in coordination with local, State, and federal officials as the fire investigation and response continues for any potential violations of state environmental laws and regulations.”

The DEC referred actions related to hazardous material disposal to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Officials noted that there are no indications that public drinking water supplies were affected.

The agencies remind anglers to consult New York State’s advice on eating locally caught fish to minimize potential exposure to contamination. Additional information can be found on DOH’s website.
