The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 3 is inviting volunteers to take part in “Wildlife Day” on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center in Dutchess County.
This event is part of a larger initiative known as the Love Our New York Lands Stewardship Days Campaign. The campaign aims to promote stewardship and highlight the state’s outdoor recreation areas by organizing themed volunteer days throughout the year. Wildlife Day, held in partnership with Parks and Trails New York and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, focuses on wildlife conservation projects and educational activities.
Volunteer registration for Wildlife Day is now open. DEC encourages residents to participate in local cleanups or educational events. At Stony Kill Farm, volunteers will help clean up the Pollinator Garden following a busy summer season by weeding and mulching. Afterward, DEC Environmental Program Specialists Tom and Erin will lead a birding program where participants can identify various bird species attracted to the area.
Participants are asked to bring water, snacks, and sturdy closed-toed shoes. Gardening gloves will be available on-site but volunteers may also bring their own. Binoculars for birdwatching will be provided; attendees may use their own if preferred.
Following Wildlife Day activities from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Stony Kill Farm will host its Harvest Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring food, crafts, vendors, and tours of barns and livestock.
Erin Sausville is listed as the contact person for more information about volunteering at this event.
“All ages welcome! Register at Parks & Trails NY,” according to the press release.
