The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 9 is inviting residents to take part in “Wildlife Day” on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The event will be held at the Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center in Erie County.
According to the DEC, Wildlife Day offers a chance for people to join conservation service projects and educational workshops across New York State. The event is organized with Parks and Trails New York and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as part of the Love Our New York Lands Stewardship Days Campaign. This campaign aims to promote year-round stewardship and highlight outdoor recreation opportunities through a series of themed events.
Registration for Wildlife Day is now open. Residents are encouraged to participate in cleanup activities, habitat enhancement efforts, or educational programs within their communities.
In partnership with the Friends of Reinstein Woods, DEC Region 9 will host several birding walks and talks at the Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center on October 4. Sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. The center is located at 93 Honorine Drive in Depew, NY.
Attendees can expect guided bird walks where they can search for local species and learn about bird conservation methods. Free samples of bird-friendly coffee will be available during the event. Further information about specific programs can be found on the Friends’ of Reinstein Woods website.
Participants are advised to dress appropriately for weather conditions and wear supportive walking shoes if joining a birding walk. The event welcomes individuals of all ages, but registration is required.
