David Freund, Chief Leadership Officer at the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY), reflected on a decade of hosting the annual Live2Lead event in Skaneateles. The event, scheduled for November 7th, marks its tenth year of bringing together leaders to learn and grow.
Freund described the setting at The Lodge in Skaneateles as both peaceful and energizing, noting that it provides an ideal environment for attendees to connect and be inspired. He outlined the structure of the day, which includes opening conversations over chocolate chip cookies, virtual presentations from five speakers, and the presentation of the Transformational Leader of the Year Award.
“Just before lunch, we present the Transformational Leader of the Year Award — one of my favorite moments of the day. The stories behind the nominations are always deeply moving and remind us of what it truly means to be a servant leader,” Freund said.
The event also features a buffet lunch prepared by The Lodge’s chef and book giveaways related to the speakers’ works. Freund emphasized that group learning during Live2Lead has a greater impact than learning alone.
He noted that this year’s event sold out weeks in advance and announced plans for next year’s gathering. Freund used his message to express gratitude for various contributors to Live2Lead: “I’m grateful for John Maxwell and the Maxwell Leadership team, who conceived this life-changing event and make it available to us year after year. I’m grateful for The Lodge, which provides such a perfect setting, making the day extra special. I’m grateful for MACNY, who partnered with me way back in 2015 — before I ever officially joined their team.”
Freund concluded by thanking readers for their support: “Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my reflections, to grow alongside me, and to be part of this ongoing journey of leadership and learning.”
