Hedge fund manager Marc Lasry has listed his penthouse at 55 Central Park West for $42 million, according to a report from Crain’s. The property, known for its appearance as the Shandor Building in the 1984 film “Ghostbusters,” is priced at $8,400 per square foot.
Lasry, co-founder of Avenue Capital Group and former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, purchased the four-bedroom duplex with his wife Cathy in 2013 for $33 million. Adjusted for inflation, the current asking price represents a loss from their original purchase. However, it is currently the most expensive co-op listing in New York City, based on data from StreetEasy.
The duplex features 2,200 square feet of terraces, a living room with a fireplace and views of Central Park, a primary suite with a dressing room, and a library with a bar and high ceilings. The building itself was constructed in 1930 in the Art Deco style and has amenities such as a children’s playroom and roof deck.
Douglas Elliman’s Alan Nickman and Stephen O’Neal are handling the listing along with Allison Chiaramonte’s team at Compass.
Avenue Capital Group was founded in 1995 and manages more than $10 billion in assets worldwide. Lasry was also involved in purchasing a stake in the Milwaukee Bucks for $550 million in 2014. He sold his share to the Haslam family in 2023 when the franchise was valued at $3.5 billion.
In addition to this property sale, Lasry has previously sold other high-end real estate including an apartment at 812 Fifth Avenue for $9.5 million to William Reeves of BlueCrest Capital Management in 2019, and a townhouse at 4 East 74th Street for $31.5 million to an anonymous buyer after initially listing it higher.
