More than $300 million in state funding will be allocated to hospitals across New York to advance health information technology and cybersecurity, according to an announcement from Governor Kathy Hochul. The funds, distributed through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV and V, will support 22 projects focused on expanding electronic medical records, strengthening cybersecurity measures for patient data, and broadening telehealth services.

Governor Hochul said, “By modernizing our hospitals’ IT infrastructure and protecting patients’ information, we’re strengthening the foundation of health care in New York State. These investments will help ensure that hospitals have the tools they need to safeguard patient data, expand telehealth services and deliver a healthier future for all New Yorkers.”

Dr. James McDonald, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health, stated: “With these investments, we are focused on developing safe, reliable and connected patient-centered care. By expanding data capabilities and improving cybersecurity defenses, we’re enhancing clinical decision making across the state’s health care network.”

The funding targets projects that assist financially distressed providers, upgrade essential IT infrastructure in healthcare settings, improve security for patient information against cyber threats, and increase access to telehealth options. Hospitals receiving awards are located throughout every region of New York.

The list of recipients along with project details is available online. Funds are administered by both the New York State Department of Health and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Governor Hochul’s administration to strengthen healthcare delivery statewide. Since its inception in 2016, more than $1.75 billion has been awarded through this program to enhance access and quality of care across New York. In total, over $4.7 billion has been invested in healthcare capital projects throughout the state.

New York has also enacted comprehensive cybersecurity regulations for hospitals under Governor Hochul’s leadership. These regulations aim to protect critical hospital systems from cyberattacks and improve resilience within the state’s healthcare network.

Recently announced awards include additional funding for 55 projects under Statewide IV as well as further initiatives through the Safety Net Transformation Program.
