The New York State Department of Health has announced it received over $260 million in federal reimbursement funding to support the 2024 Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The program provides nutrition education and meal reimbursements, supporting providers who serve nutritious meals and snacks to children and adults in day care settings. Funding is allocated based on the number of qualifying meals and snacks served to participants.
“Nutrition is the foundation of good health,” said State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald. “Through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, thousands of families across New York receive access to nutritious meals, helping to build healthier futures. This funding plays a vital role in advancing our mission to promote health equity and ensure every New Yorker has the opportunity to live a healthy and full life.”
Statewide, there are currently 1,275 sponsoring organizations representing 13,135 licensed or registered center-based or family day care sites participating in CACFP. On average, these providers serve about 408,000 meals daily at facilities involved in the program.
