As Oktoberfest season begins, communities across New York State are preparing to host a range of Bavarian-inspired festivals and events. These celebrations, spanning from Long Island to Niagara Falls, offer attendees the chance to experience traditional German food, music, and activities.
Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury is holding its Oktoberfest on select dates through September 21. The festival includes access to amusement rides, German-style beers, cuisine such as pierogis and pretzels, live music from Fritz Polka Band, and family-friendly contests.
In Manhattan, Watermark Bar at Pier 15 is hosting OktoberFest NYC until October 26. Admission is free with advanced registration recommended. Visitors can enjoy live music and dancing with views of the Brooklyn skyline while sampling Schnitzel and jumbo pretzels.
Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz will celebrate Mountaintop Oktoberfest from September 19-21. Activities include brewing discussions, polka dance classes, tastings from local producers, stein games, and German-themed meals.
Binghamton’s German Club will host Binghamton Oktoberfest on September 20. Guests can participate in traditional Bier Stein hoisting contests and sample an assortment of wursts including vegan options.
Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square continues its long tradition of German cultural events with Oompahfest on September 21 followed by multiple days of festivities through October 12 featuring live music and themed menus.
Cape Vincent’s annual Oktoberfest takes place on September 27 at the Village Green. The event starts with a two-mile “Volksmarch” walk before offering German cuisine, live performances by Gridlock and DJ Vito, children’s activities, and dance contests.
Lockport’s Locktoberfest also occurs on September 27 as part of the Erie Canal Bicentennial celebration. Attendees can browse a large farmers market with over 55 vendors and watch demonstrations at the historic Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks.
Niagara Falls hosts an Oktoberfest event on Old Falls Street on September 27 featuring food vendors along a three-block cobblestone street near the falls as well as performances by the German American Musicians Association.
Albany’s Wolff’s Biergarten holds its annual event on September 27 beginning with an Oktoberfest-themed 5K run followed by festivities including keg bowling competitions and dachshund races.
Rough Cut Brewing in Kerhonkson offers small-town charm for its free event also scheduled for September 27 with live music, raffles, fall brews, and limited edition souvenir steins or boots available for purchase.
Whiteface Mountain’s family-friendly festival runs from September 27-28 in Wilmington with headliner bands such as die Schlauberger performing alongside other musical acts. The event includes gondola rides for views of autumn foliage in the Adirondacks.
Hunter Mountain will hold three weekends of celebrations between late September and mid-October featuring local bands like Joe Adee & The Lugnuts alongside food trucks and scenic skyrides through Catskill landscapes.
Auburn’s Prison City Brewing welcomes visitors October 5 for their annual gathering which features live entertainment by Syracuse German Band & Dancers plus a selection of over twenty types of beer or wine for adults while children enjoy bounce houses.
Lake George Village transforms its main street into a Bavarian fair October 10-12 where carnival rides join artisan vendors among ongoing polka music performances; additional area events occur nearby throughout autumn at Glens Falls (September 27) or Adirondack Brewery (October 18).
For those interested in river views during their celebration: Circle Line cruises operate out of Manhattan between October 11-November 9 offering Hudson River excursions paired with traditional fare; Seastreak provides similar sailings October 11-12 while Fairport’s Colonial Belle explores the Erie Canal October 11 during its themed cruise event.
The Athenaeum Hotel at Chautauqua Institution hosts an evening dinner accompanied by folk music performed by Bergholz German Band on October 25; guests may choose overnight packages that include meals highlighting dishes such as Sauerbraten or Apfelstrudel dessert options.
