The village of Scarsdale is located in south central Westchester County in the northern suburbs of New York City. As of the 2010 census Scarsdale had a population of 17,166. The village was founded as a town in 1788 and was then incorporated as a village in 1915. Scarsdale has a total land area of 6.6 square miles. The village is served by the Scarsdale Union Free School District, which operates five elementary schools along with Scarsdale Middle School and Scarsdale High School. Scarsdale is governed by a village manager, mayor and board of trustees. Alfred A. Gatta serves as village manager serving under the director of the mayor and trustees. He is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, budgeting and evaluating all government activities. The mayor, Miriam Levitt Flisser, is elected from the seven-member Scarsdale Board of Trustees. Stacey Brodsky, Katherine Eisenman, Robert H. Harrison, Jonathan Mark, Robert J. Steves and David S. Lee are the other trustees.
