The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University has announced the appointment of Jared J. Hatcliffe, Esq., as Associate Director of Advocacy, expanding the leadership team of its Advocacy Program. In his new role, Adjunct Professor Hatcliffe will help oversee the growth of the law school’s trial advocacy program, mentor students in litigation skills, and work with faculty to develop experiential curricula in Trial Skills, Appellate Advocacy, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Professor Hatcliffe has over 20 years of experience as a trial lawyer and educator. Since 1999, he has served as Senior Trial Counsel for the New York City Law Department, Office of the Corporation Counsel, handling a wide range of jury trials involving civil rights, municipal liability, employment discrimination, medical malpractice, and wrongful death. He has also argued motions and appeals in both federal and state courts and contributed to training programs for trial lawyers at the Law Department.

Since 2018, Professor Hatcliffe has taught courses at Pace Haub Law including Trial Advocacy, Damages, Motion Practice, and Pre-Trial Civil Litigation. He has received the Barbara Salken Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award and the Loretta Musial Service Award for his work with students and the advocacy program. His teaching experience also includes roles at Stetson University College of Law, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Pace University’s Paralegal Certificate Program. He has lectured at institutions such as the University of Oxford.

Hatcliffe is a published author with works including “Trial Advocacy: The Art of Storytelling – Strategies for Winning a Trial in New York State Court” (Carolina Academic Press, 2022) and co-author of “New York Criminal Procedure: An Analytical Approach” (third edition, 2022). He is also the founder and manager of The Advocate’s Advantage blog for Pace Haub Law’s Trial Advocacy Program.

“I am honored to step into this new role at Pace Haub Law and appreciative of Professor Fasulo’s confidence in me,” said Professor Hatcliffe. “Our advocacy program is built on a tradition of excellence, and I look forward to continuing to work with our students and faculty to ensure that the next generation of trial lawyers leave here with the skills, confidence, and judgment needed to succeed in the courtroom.”

Director of Advocacy Programs and Professor of Trial Practice Louis Fasulo commented on the appointment: “Professor Hatcliffe will be an excellent leader for our program. He is a proven trial lawyer, mentor, and seasoned educator. His deep litigation experience combined with his passion for teaching make him an invaluable asset for our advocacy program and a great role model for our students. This appointment will allow for continued growth of our program and provide our students with great new opportunities to prepare them for practice.”

Hatcliffe holds a Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice from St. John’s University. He is admitted to practice law in New York State as well as in federal courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
