Stony Brook University Hospital has been recognized as the top hospital for pediatric care in New York State by Money, ranking No. 1 statewide and No. 7 nationally on the publication’s Best Hospitals for Pediatric Care list for 2025.
William Wertheim, MD, executive vice president of Stony Brook Medicine, commented on the recognition: “Being ranked as the top hospital for pediatric care is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence. Our team of dedicated professionals works tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the best possible care. We are proud to lead in pediatric healthcare and meet the needs of the families we serve.”
Carol Gomes, chief executive officer at Stony Brook University Hospital, added: “This ranking reflects the steady dedication and expertise of our entire team in providing the highest quality of care and support to our young patients and their families. We remain committed to advancing pediatric medicine and ensuring the best outcomes for our community.”
Money evaluated more than 6,000 hospitals across the United States, beginning with those that had received either a four- or five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The methodology included an assessment by Denniston Data, which measures provider experience with specific procedures. Unlike other rankings, Money also factored in overall healthcare costs when determining its Composite Ranking Score (CRS), which rewards hospitals based on staff experience levels.
For consideration in this specialty list, hospitals were required to have active pediatric specialists on staff. More information about Money’s methodology can be found on their website.
The evaluation of Stony Brook University Hospital included data from Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, Suffolk County’s only children’s hospital. The facility employs over 180 pediatric specialists covering 30 specialties and serves as Suffolk County’s only Level 4 Regional Perinatal Center and Level 1 Regional Pediatric Trauma Center. Additional programs at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital include centers focused on multiple sclerosis, neonatal intensive care, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, healthy weight management, cystic fibrosis, hematology/oncology, cardiology, and HIV/AIDS.
