The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables detailing the characteristics of the foreign-born population in the United States, based on findings from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).

The data tables offer insights into various aspects of the foreign-born population by generation. They include information on employment status, education, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex. The tables categorize individuals as first generation (foreign-born), second generation (with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation (with two U.S. native parents).

According to the Census Bureau, “The Current Population Survey is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most well-recognized surveys. In addition to being the primary source of monthly labor force statistics, it is used to collect data for a variety of other studies to keep the nation informed about the economic and social well-being of its people.”

There was no separate news release issued for this product; it was distributed as a tip sheet.
